Aquaculture - Platypus Range
An easy to use proprietary formulation containing peptides, minerals and other nutrients to maximise the germination and subsequent rapid growth of selected probiotic Bacillus species in PLATYPUS AQUACULTURE. It has been specifically formulated to be ideal for routine use in aquaculture growout ponds. Use of PLATYPUS ACTIVATE is a cost-effective means of growing very large numbers of viable, Bacillus microorganisms in a short time. For the Bacillus spores to germinate, it is necessary to provide a short 'heat shock' by adding the spores to freshly boiled solution of PLATYPUS ACTIVATE in water, followed by a period of gentle aeration.
This uniquely Australian range of products contains naturally occuring microbes which benefit the host and/or the environment. The microbes have been shown to be free of virulence genes, do not undergo any form of genetic manipulation and contain no chemicals, ensuring a natural approach to every situation - safe, non-toxic and residue free. Each of the microbes used in the Platypus range are grown by fermentation to GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) Standard. All of the microbes have been selected on the basis they can be clearly defined by genus species and genetic fingerprint. Each of the microbes selected fulfills an important role in improving water quality and animal health.
The Platypus range results from more than ten years research and development into selection of microbial strains, determination of effectiveness of strains, formulation of products, stability testing, resolution of compatibility with antibiotics and field trials. Platypus offers a range of live microbial products designed for incorporation into a programme of water treatment to promote a healthy environment for crustaceans (eg shrimp), fish, molluscs and other water-borne animals. This approach is to increase yields through improvement in water quality and lowering of mortality rates by reduction in levels of disease causing bacteria and improved resistance to disease. With other benefits applicable to waste water, such as reduction in odour, Platypus can also be used in fresh, brackish, or sea water to lower or degrade sludge and solids, stabilise plankton and improve water quality.
